Layali Derbeki Middle Eastern Drum Troupe |
|
Layali Derbeki is a unique blend of musicians and dancers who weave intricate tapestries of sight and
sound. Whether they are playing a spicy Flamenco number or an earthy Egyptian beledi, these
performers convey a sense of passion and playfulness which transforms an ordinary evening
into a joyous collection of rhythm and dance.
The troupe started in 1998 when Nagwa Sai'd brought in Joseph Tayoun, Philadelphia's best Middle
Eastern drummer to her troupe, El Raks Sai'd, to teach a few basics on the doumbek. They hit
it off and a great musical collaboration was started.
Since then, the group has been able to combine percussive arrangements with powerful authentic dancing to create an entrancing experience of Middle Eastern music and movement.
