Objectives

  • understand and prove that the straight line segment connecting the midpoints of two sides of a triangle is parallel to the other side and is half its length,
  • use the triangle midsegment theorems to solve problems,
  • prove geometric properties using the triangle midsegment theorems.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • parallel lines,
  • bisectors,
  • parallelograms.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the Pythagorean theorem.
