Objectives
Students will be able to
- divide circles, squares, and rectangles into three equal parts and identify each part as a third,
- tell how many thirds make a whole,
- understand that decomposing circles, squares, and rectangles into thirds makes smaller shares.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying halves and quarters (fourths),
- dividing two-dimensional shapes into equal parts.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- fraction notation.
