What are the components of the anterior part of the human skull? (A) Parietal bone, occipital bone, and temporal bone. (B) Frontal and occipital bones only. (C) Parietal bones only. Or (D) facial bones, eye sockets, and teeth.

In the human skeleton, the skull is the bone structure that forms the head. Let’s use this side view of the skull to review its different components.

The skull is the bone structure that forms a support for the face and a cavity protecting the brain. The most posterior part of the skull, meaning the back part, is made of the occipital bone. The back and sides of the skull are formed by the parietal and temporal bones. The anterior part of the skull is made of different components, which include the frontal bone, forming the top of the face. Several smaller facial bones form the structure of the face. These include the nasal bone; the maxilla, which forms the upper jaw; and the mandible, which forms the lower jaw. The maxilla and mandible hold the teeth. The eye sockets are made up of seven bones, including the zygomatic, also called the cheekbone.

This review of the human skull components leads us to answer (D). The facial bones, eye sockets, and teeth are the components of the anterior part of the human skull.
