Which of the following correctly links genes and DNA? (A) One molecule of DNA, chromosome, contains many genes. (B) One gene contains many different DNA molecules, chromosomes.

Our genetic material, DNA, is found in the nucleus of most of our cells. In fact, if you were to remove the DNA from a single cell and stretch it out, it would be about two meters in length. This DNA is not one long continuous molecule. Instead, it’s organized into 46 structures called chromosomes.

Let’s look at one of these chromosomes in more detail. Each chromosome is a compacted form of DNA that’s wrapped up tightly around special proteins called histones. On this DNA molecule, there can be many different genes. These genes provide the instructions for different proteins, for example, insulin that regulates blood sugar levels.

Therefore, the correct answer choice is (A). One molecule of DNA, chromosome, contains many genes.
