Remember that when we work with fractions, we’re working with a part to the whole. To fill in the whole piece of our fraction, we need to know how many flowers we have total.

Right now, we have two flowers. What part are we looking for? We’re looking for the part of the flowers that are red.

Out of our two flowers, how many are red? One out of the two flowers are red. We can say that the fraction of the flowers that are red is one-half.
