Objectives
Students will be able to
- solve a suitable quadratic equation by using the square root property and verify the answers by substitution,
- understand that quadratics in this form can have zero, one, or two solutions,
- solve real-world problems by using the square root property on a quadratic and determine the valid solutions by considering the physical restrictions,
- solve a polynomial equation by rearranging it into a form that can be solved by applying the square root property.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- quadratic equations,
- square roots,
- operations on polynomials.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- other solution methods, such as the graphical method, factoring, the quadratic formula, and so on,
- completing the square,
- polynomial equations that cannot be solved using the square root property.
