Lesson Plan: Converting and Comparing Mass: Metric Units Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to convert, compare, and order mass units in the metric system, like milligrams, grams, and kilograms and apply these skills to solve real-world problems.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recognize the different metric units of mass, including milligrams, grams, and kilograms,
  • convert between different metric mass units and compare quantities measured using different units,
  • order quantities of mass measured using different units,
  • solve real-world problems involving metric units of mass.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • mass and the different units.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • units of capacity.
