Lesson Plan: Vectors in Space Mathematics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to represent a vector in space using a three-dimensional coordinate system.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find the components of a vector that connects two points in 3D space using known coordinates,
- find the components of a vector that connects two points in 3D space using simple addition and subtraction of vectors, specifically
- ,
- ,
- find the coordinates of an unknown point using the coordinates of a known point and the components of a known vector,
- find the components of a 3D vector that is represented graphically.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- coordinates in 3D space,
- addition and subtraction of vectors in 2D.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- general addition and subtraction of vectors,
- transformations or vector operations.
