Objectives
Students will be able to
- use a number line to add rational numbers,
- add rational numbers as fractions (including mixed numbers) with like denominators,
- add rational numbers as fractions (including mixed numbers) with unlike denominators by using the LCM of the denominators,
- add rational numbers in different forms,
- convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages in order to add rational numbers of different forms.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the definition of a rational number,
- simplifying fractions,
- converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages,
- addition of negative numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- multiplication and division of rational numbers,
- subtraction fractions,
- evaluating algebraic expressions.
