Objectives
Students will be able to
- model the addition of numbers within 20 on a number line,
- write addition equations matching number lines,
- use a number line to count on and find a sum within 20,
- count on from either addend using a number line and express a preference,
- identify the largest number in an addition sentence and count on from there on a number line to find the sum.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- counting to 20,
- counting objects to 20,
- reading and writing numbers to 20,
- adding numbers up to 10 by counting on.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- adding numbers with a sum greater than 20,
- adding by making 10.
