Lesson Plan: Measuring Angles Physics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to correctly use protractors to measure angles.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • state which objects or instruments can be used to accurately measure angles (a protractor),
  • use both a 180 protractor and a 360 protractor correctly to measure angles,
  • identify when a 180 protractor or a 360 protractor has been used incorrectly to measure an angle and how.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • adding and subtracting integers,
  • adding and subtracting decimals,
  • what angles are,
  • degrees.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • instruments other than a 180 protractor and a 360 protractor,
  • measuring angles to a resolution smaller than 1,
  • measuring angles in units other than degrees,
  • measuring other quantities,
  • trigonometry.
