Lesson Plan: L’Hôpital’s Rule Mathematics • Higher Education
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply L’Hôpital’s rule to evaluate the limits of the indeterminate forms 0/0 and ∞/∞.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the statement of L’Hôpital’s rule,
- use L’Hôpital’s rule to evaluate the limits of indeterminate forms,
- use L’Hôpital’s rule multiple times to evaluate more complicated expressions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the chain, product, and quotient rules for differentiation,
- differentiating polynomial, trigonometric, rational, and exponential functions,
- limits and indeterminate forms.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- other indeterminate forms such as .
