Lesson Plan: Comparing and Ordering Real Numbers Mathematics • Second Year of Preparatory School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare and order numbers in ℝ.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that the real numbers are an ordered set,
- understand how ordering works on a number line,
- define the positive and negative (and the nonnegative and nonpositive) sets of numbers,
- order multiple real numbers from least to greatest and vice versa.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the set of real numbers,
- representing rational and irrational numbers on a number line,
- approximating irrational numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- intervals.
