Lesson Plan: Applying Mathematical Skills Chemistry
This lesson plan includes the objectives and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to apply various mathematical skills to determine values and solve problems in a chemistry context.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- write and calculate ratios, fractions, and percentages and convert between them,
- calculate the areas, surface areas, and volumes of simple shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, and cubes,
- identify the radius and diameter of a circle and use these to calculate the area and circumference,
- explain the use of positive and negative indices and calculate their values,
- explain simple probability and calculate the probability of simple problems within a chemistry context.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- trigonometry,
- volumes or surface areas of 3D shapes other than cubes or rectangular prisms,
- errors or uncertainties.
