Objectives

Students will be able to

  • compare two addition sentences using the terms more than, less than, and equal to,
  • compare two addition sentences using the symbols <, >, and =,
  • decide when it is possible to compare without calculating.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • adding within 10,
  • using addition to find a given total with a different addend,
  • the symbols <, >, and =.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • addition sentences with more than two addends,
  • addition sentences with missing numbers.
