Lesson Plan: Arc Lengths and Sectors: Degrees Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the arc length and the area of a sector given the angle measure in degrees.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recognize the formulas for calculating arc length when the measure of the arc is given in degrees,
  • calculate the length of a sector’s arc,
  • calculate the perimeter of a sector,
  • calculate the radius of a sector when given the measure of the arc and the length of the arc (or the perimeter),
  • recognize the formulas for calculating the area of a sector when the measure of the arc is given in degrees,
  • calculate the area of a sector,
  • solve related problems involving areas and perimeters of sectors.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • finding the circumference of a circle,
  • finding the area of a circle.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • radians,
  • circular segments.
