Lesson Plan: Circuit Symbols and Diagrams Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify basic circuit symbols and identify equivalent circuits.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recognise and draw the correct circuit symbols for: a resistor, a variable resistor, a thermistor, a light-dependent resistor (LDR), a fuse, a cell, a battery, a filament bulb, a diode, a light-emitting diode (LED), a switch.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- electric charge,
- electric current.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- any other circuit symbols,
- calculations of current,
- Ohm’s Law,
- complex series and parallel circuits,
- the rules for potential difference, current, and resistance in series and parallel circuits,
- the current-potential difference characteristics for any component,
- how chemical cells work.
