Nagwa is an instructor, choreographer, costume designer, drummer, and
performer with a troupe of her own, El Raks Sai’d (Happy Dancers).
She currently teaches classes in a number of locations, including Bellydancing at
the "Top Hat" ballroom studio in Northeast Philadelphia, Bellydancing at the "Yoga Now"
Studio in Marlton, NJ, Bellydancing at the Northeast Krewstown Health and Fitness
club, Bellydancing at the YMCA in Madison, NJ and Flamenco at Rutgers University. She has taugh bellydancing on a
Moroccan
Cruise, given Egyptian Folklore lessons at the Ballet Studio
"Ballet Classique" in Frenchtown, NJ, taught and taught Flamenco at the
"Semitti's Gymnastics, Ballet and Yoga Studio" in Philadelphia, PA. She has also
taught Bellycancing at the Princeton YMCA in addition to teaching both Bellydancing
and Flamenco at the CEG Performing Arts Center in Philadelphia, PA.
In addition to teaching regular classes, Nagwa periodically conducts workshops. She has
sponsored such famous quest artists as Faten Salama of Egypt, Shawki Naim of
Egypt, Agiba of Egypt, Layla Hakim of Canada, Elena Lentini of New York, and
Suhaila Salimpour of California.
As the artistic director of El Raks Sai’d, she produces and performs in
theater shows on a regular basis, routinely featuring dancers from around all
over the country. Her theatrical productions are of the highest quality and
have been held at many prestigious places, such as the Annenburg Theater of
Philadelphia, the War Memorial in New Jersey, and Arden Guild Hall in
Delaware. She is known for her historically authentic costumes
and for her painstaking research into ancient pharonic choreography. She is
also familiar with the traditional dances of Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey,
and Algeria.
In addition to her theatrical performances, Nagwa has danced at
restaurants, charitable events, museums, festivals, universities,
conventions, and private parties throughout the US. She has also made
appearances on Broadway. In 1983, she was granted the special privilege of
dancing for the Egyptian Ambassador to the United States in Baltimore
Maryland, the “Luxor-Alexandria Sister City”.
Having devoted many years to the study of classical Russian ballet, Nagwa
has become a well respected authority on posture and technique. She has
spent 13 years mastering the arts of Flamenco and other Spanish dances and
has also studied African Cuban dancing. Highly accomplished, Nagwa Sai’d is
truly Philadelphia’s First Lady of Dance.
