Pick the number that is smaller than five. Is it four, six, eight, or seven?

We can use a number line to help. We have to pick a number that is smaller than five. Anything to the right of number five on the number line is bigger or greater than number five. Any number to the left of number five on the number line is smaller. So number six is greater than five, so is number eight and number seven. The number that is smaller than five is number four.
