So again, the numbers in the first row are proportional to the corresponding numbers in the second row. Therefore, three is to four as 𝑥 is to six.

And we can solve by cross multiplying. Three times six is 18 and four times 𝑥 is four 𝑥. So to solve for 𝑥, we divide both sides by four. The fours cancel and then 18 divided by four is 4.5. So the value of 𝑥 is 4.5.
