Which outcome is least likely when spinning the arrow on this spinner?
First, let’s see how many different outcomes there are. In this case, we’ll need to see how many different letters the arrow could fall on. It could fall on 𝑃, 𝑄, 𝑅, or 𝑆. To answer the question about likelihood though, we need to count how many chances you have that your arrow will fall on 𝑃, 𝑄, 𝑅, or 𝑆.
There are five 𝑃’s on our spinner. That means that there are five chances that the arrow will land on 𝑃. At the same time, there is only one 𝑄 on the spinner. Only one chance it will land on the 𝑄, two 𝑆’s, and two 𝑅’s.
Our question is which outcome is least likely — the smallest chance. Because there’s only one 𝑄 on our spinner and there are two 𝑅’s, two 𝑆’s, and five 𝑃’s, it is least likely that the arrow will land on 𝑄.
