The table shows conversions between hectograms and grams and centigrams and grams. One hectogram equals 100 grams. 100 centigrams equals one gram. Determine the number of centigrams in three hectograms.
Well, the first thing we’re going to do to solve the problem is use the first row in our table. And that is that one hectogram equals 100 grams, because if one hectogram equals 100 grams, then therefore three hectograms is gonna be equal to three multiplied by 100 grams, which is going to be equal to 300 grams.
Okay, so we’ve now converted hectograms to grams. But this doesn’t mean that the problem is quite solved. And that’s because we want to determine the number of centigrams in three hectograms. So now we’re going to need to use the second row of our table. And this tells us that 100 centigrams is equal to one gram. So therefore, we know that 300 grams is gonna be equal to 300 multiplied by 100 centigrams, which is gonna be equal to 30000 centigrams. So therefore, we’ve solved the problem because we can say that three hectograms is equal to 30000 centigrams.
