This lesson plan includes the objectives and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify, describe, and classify elements, compounds, pure substances, and mixtures according to their compositions.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- distinguish between the terms compound and mixture in order to better assess the chemicals in a chemical equation,
- analyze diagrams and descriptions to classify matter as compounds or mixtures,
- describe the terms solvent, solute, solution, and saturated solution in order to explain the compositions of different liquids,
- use the terms purity, homogenous, and heterogenous to add clarity to descriptions of different mixtures and compounds.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- colloids, emulsions, and suspensions in detail.
