Objectives

Students will be able to

  • distinguish between the terms compound and mixture in order to better assess the chemicals in a chemical equation,
  • analyze diagrams and descriptions to classify matter as compounds or mixtures,
  • describe the terms solvent, solute, solution, and saturated solution in order to explain the compositions of different liquids,
  • use the terms purity, homogenous, and heterogenous to add clarity to descriptions of different mixtures and compounds.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • colloids, emulsions, and suspensions in detail.
