Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify direct variation and find the constant of proportionality/variation (unit rate) between two quantities from their graph,
- identify direct variation from a table of values, a description, or an equation and find the constant of proportionality/variation (unit rate) between two quantities,
- solve for a missing value given a proportional relationship,
- write an equation describing direct variation,
- solve real-life word problems involving direct variation.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- ratios and proportion,
- linear functions,
- graphing linear functions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- inverse variation,
- proportionality to other degrees of (e.g., when varies as or ),
- combined variation,
- joint variation.
