Objectives

  • describe how blood groups and Rhesus factors are inherited,
  • state the importance of blood groups in determining paternity, blood transfusions, and studying evolution,
  • explain the different possibilities of blood transfusions between humans,
  • explain how blood groups are determined by agglutination,
  • explain the importance of the Rhesus factor in blood transfusions and pregnancy.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • basic principles of inheritance,
  • dominant and recessive alleles.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • details of performing blood transfusions.
