Lesson Plan: Tables and Graphs of Proportional Relationships Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify graphs and tables of proportional relationships, determine the constant of proportionality, and explain the meaning of each set of values.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find missing values in a table when given the constant of proportionality or its graph,
- given the constant of proportionality (or its table), draw its graph,
- find the equation of the line that represents the relationship between the two variables using the constant of proportionality or its table or graph,
- determine the constant of proportionality,
- interpret the meaning of the constant of proportionality.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- ratios,
- finding unknowns when two variables are proportional,
- graphing from a table of values.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- inverse proportional relationships,
- unit rate.
