This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to analyze the current induced in conducting loops by changing magnetic fields and the magnetic field due to a current loop.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • determine the direction of the magnetic field produced due to a current in a conducting loop,
  • use the formula 𝜀=𝑁Δ𝐵𝐴Δ𝑡 to relate the emf induced in a conducting coil to the area of its loops, the number of its turns, and the rate of change of magnetic flux linkage,
  • analyze the motion of conducting loops relative to a magnetic field to determine the rate of change of flux linkage.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • magnetic flux,
  • electromagnetic induction.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • self-inductance,
  • mutual inductance.
