Objectives
Students will be able to
- use models to help subtract a single-digit number from a teen number,
- partition the two-digit minuend to help subtract a single-digit number from a teen number,
- count back to help subtract a single-digit number from a teen number,
- solve word-based problems involving subtraction of single-digit numbers from teen numbers.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- subtracting numbers within 10,
- modeling subtractions using objects, counters, or blocks,
- partitioning numbers to make calculations easier.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- subtracting from numbers greater than 19,
- subtracting zero,
- subtracting across ten.
