Objectives
Students will be able to
- subtract two- and three-digit numbers from three-digit numbers that contain at least one zero,
- make connections between concrete and abstract models of regrouping,
- use a formal algorithm to represent calculations,
- solve word problems that require subtracting two- or three-digit numbers from three-digit numbers that contain at least one zero.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- using the column method to subtract two- and three-digit numbers from three-digit numbers that do not contain a zero,
- regrouping, where necessary, when using the column method.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- estimating answers,
- numbers with more than three digits.
