This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity of a projectile and analyze and solve problems associated with projectile motion at any angle.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • find the horizontal and vertical components of the velocity of a projectile given its speed and angle of projection,
  • find the initial speed and angle of projection of a projectile given its initial velocity in vector form,
  • solve projectile problems where the projectile is projected with both a horizontal and vertical component of velocity using the equations of motion,
  • find the greatest height a particle reaches after it has been projected with a given velocity using the equations of motion.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the equations of motion,
  • the projection of horizontal projectiles.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • projectile motion formulas,
  • finding the parametric or Cartesian equations that represent the motion of a projectile,
  • solving projectile problems in term of vectors to find missing accelerations, velocities, displacements, and times.
