Lesson Plan: Sequence Formulas Mathematics • Second Year of Secondary School

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the general term or a recursive formula for a sequence and how to use them to work out terms in the sequence.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • identify a specified number of terms of a sequence, or a specific term, given the general term or a recursive formula,
  • identify properties of a sequence given its general term or a recursive relationship, for example, determining if the sequence is increasing or decreasing,
  • find the general term of a sequence,
  • find a recursive formula for the sequence.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • sequence notation.
