Lesson Plan: Multiplying by 11

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use skip counting and known multiplication facts to multiply by 11.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • draw models to represent and solve multiplication sentences,
  • use skip counting to multiply by 11,
  • combine multiplication facts to multiply by 11,
  • find missing products and factors in multiplication sentences,
  • recite the eleven times table up to 12×11.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • multiplication up to 10×10,
  • the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition,
  • modeling multiplication with arrays and equal groups models.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • solving word problems,
  • multiples of 11 greater than 132.
