Objectives

Students will be able to

  • model any number of tenths,
  • write a fraction with a denominator of 10 as a decimal,
  • write any number of tenths as a fraction and a decimal,
  • understand that the decimal point separates the whole part of the number from the fractional part.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • place value of 3-digit numbers,
  • how the place value of digits changes when we multiply or divide by ten,
  • how to read, write, and model fractions with 10 in the denominator.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • modeling decimals on number lines.
