Lesson Plan: Subtracting Money: EGP Mathematics • First Year of Primary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to subtract units of money up to 100 Egyptian pounds (EGP) without regrouping.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- subtract amounts of money shown using notes and pound coins,
- subtract amounts of money expressed using numerals,
- solve word problems involving subtracting amounts of money.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- adding amounts of money (whole pounds only),
- recognizing 1-pound coins and notes and the notes for LE 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100,
- subtracting two-digit numbers without regrouping.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- subtracting where regrouping is required,
- subtracting amounts that include piastres,
- numbers greater than 100.
