Objectives
Students will be able to
- calculate missing side lengths on diagrams of composite figures,
- calculate the perimeter of composite figures by summing the side lengths,
- calculate the area of composite figures by dividing them into squares or rectangles.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- calculating the perimeter and areas of squares and rectangles,
- converting between metric units,
- adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers within 1,000.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- composite figures involving shapes other than squares and rectangles,
- composite figures in which the side lengths are noninteger values.
