This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate the resonant frequency and 𝑄 value of simple resistive-capacitive-inductive circuits.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use the following equations to calculate resonant circuit frequencies and circuit 𝑄 values: 𝜔=1(𝐿𝐶)resonant and 𝑄=𝜔𝐿𝑅.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the angular frequency of an alternating current, 𝜔=2𝜋𝑓,
  • capacitance,
  • capacitive reactance,
  • inductance,
  • inductive reactance.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • parallel circuits.
