This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve cubic equations using the cube root property.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • understand that equations of the form 𝑥=𝑐 can be solved by taking the cube root of both sides,
  • rearrange equations in the form (𝑎𝑥+𝑏)+𝑐=𝑑 (or similar forms) into the above form and then solve for 𝑥.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • cube roots of rational numbers.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • solutions to cubic equations involving irrational numbers.
