This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare two fractions with the same denominator using models.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find which of two fractions is larger,
- find which of two fractions is smaller,
- understand that when the denominators are the same, a larger numerator means the fraction is closer to one whole.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying the numerator and denominator in a fraction,
- understanding that the denominator is the total number of equal parts,
- understanding that the numerator is a select number of those equal parts.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- ordering fractions with the same denominator.
