Lesson Plan: Sankey Diagrams Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to correctly draw and interpret Sankey diagrams for processes that involve the transfer of energy.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- interpret and draw Sankey diagrams that represent energy processes,
- recall that since energy cannot be created or destroyed, a Sankey diagram must not gain or lose width along its path,
- make calculations of how much energy is used or wasted and calculations of efficiency given the energy value for one or more branches of a Sankey diagram,
- recognize when a Sankey diagram shows a process that is physically impossible.

Students should already be familiar with

- power,
- efficiency.
