Lesson Plan: Prime and Composite Numbers
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to decide whether a number is prime or composite.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define a prime number as a number greater than 1 with exactly two factors,
- define a composite number as a number greater than 1 with more than two factors,
- use models to decide if a number is prime or composite,
- list factors to decide if a number is prime or composite,
- investigate properties of prime and composite numbers.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the factors of numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- numbers greater than 100,
- dividing by two-digit numbers.
