This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to determine the cube of an integer and use it to represent the volume of a cube.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- express a cube number in exponent notation,
- evaluate the cube of a positive number,
- evaluate the cube of zero,
- evaluate the cube of a negative number,
- recognize that the cube of a positive number represents the volume of a cube with that side length,
- solve word problems involving cubes of numbers.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- square numbers and square roots.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- cubes of rational numbers,
- cube roots of nonperfect cubes,
- fourth powers or higher,
- algebraic notation,
- calculations involving order of operations and cube numbers.
