Lesson Plan: The Link Reaction and Krebs Cycle Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to describe the steps of the link reaction and the Krebs cycle and recall the products of each.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the steps of the link reaction and state the products formed,
- summarize the events of the Krebs cycle as the formation of citric acid (citrate) from carbon dioxide and oxaloacetic acid, the formation of 5 carbon and 4 carbon compounds, and the regeneration of oxaloacetic acid (oxaloacetate),
- describe the role of acetyl coenzyme A, FAD, NAD, and ADP in the Krebs cycle,
- state the products of the Krebs cycle as being carbon dioxide, reduced FAD, reduced NAD, and ATP.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the basic equation for respiration,
- glycolysis.
