Lesson Plan: Congruence of Polygons through Transformations Mathematics • 8th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to identify congruence of polygons after applying transformations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that the image of a plane figure under a translation, reflection, rotation, or dilation is similar to the figure,
- understand that the image of a plane figure under a translation, reflection, or rotation is congruent to the figure,
- understand that the image of a plane figure under a dilation is not necessarily congruent to the figure,
- judge whether two shapes are congruent by checking to see if one is the image of a transformation or a sequence of transformations of the other.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations,
- similarity and congruence of polygons.
