Lesson Plan

Students will be able to

  • define ATP as the universal energy currency of cells,
  • describe the structure of ADP and ATP as a phosphorylated nucleotide,
  • describe how ATP releases energy as it is hydrolyzed,
  • describe how ATP is synthesized from ADP and inorganic phosphate via a condensation reaction,
  • outline the roles of ATP in cells and the body in providing energy to carry out key processes.
