There are tables with six bags on each one of them, and each bag contains four pencils. Find the total number of pencils.
So on each table, there are six bags. And each bag contains four pencils. But instead of drawing eight tables with six bags and four pencils in each bag, we
can use multiplication. We multiply our eight tables times the six bags on each table times the four pencils
in each bag.
We know that eight times six equals 48. Now we just need to multiply 48 by four. Starting with four times eight, which equals 32, write down your two, carry your
three. From there, we multiply four times four, which equals 16, and add three. 16 plus three equals 19. 48 times four equals 192.
When we multiplied eight times six and found 48, 48 is the number of bags. Since there are four pencils in each bag and 48 total bags, there are 192
pencils.
