Determine whether the following is
a statistical question: how tall are you?
So we want to decide whether this
question is statistical. A statistical question is one that
can be answered by collecting data and there will be variability in that data. So when it asks us how tall are
you, there won’t be any variability in that data. You simply measure your height and
tell them. So our answer would be no.
Now, a statistical question might
be how do you travel to work? Someone may drive, someone may
walk, someone may take a train, someone may take a subway, someone may take a
cab. So there is variability in those
answers. But when someone asks us how tall
we are, there won’t be any variability. So our answer is no.
