The pie chart shows the proportions
of students in a year group who played basketball, football, and volleyball. Given that there are 108 students
in the year, complete the table.
Here we have our pie chart. Here we can see half of the circle
is for students who play football. And then the other half is split
equally between volleyball and basketball. So each of these will be a
fourth.
So if half of the students play
football, we need to take one-half times 108. And we get 54, so let’s put that in
the place for football in our table. One-fourth of the students play
volleyball. So one-fourth times 108 would be
27.
And now we do the same for
basketball. And just like in volleyball,
one-fourth times 108 gives us 27. So now our table is complete. Just to be safe, let’s go ahead and
add all of our numbers together and make sure that it equals the total number of
students, 108. And 27 plus 27 plus 54 is indeed
108. So our table is complete.
