Ordinal Numbers
In this video, we will learn how to
name the positions of up to 10 objects in a row using ordinal numbers. These are ordinal numbers. We can use ordinal numbers to show
positions in a race. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th,
8th, 9th, 10th. And we can also write these numbers
in words. First, second, third, fourth,
fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth. All of the words after first,
second, and third have a “th” on the end. Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and
so on. We use ordinal numbers to help us
describe the positions of objects in a row.
These snails are having a race. Which snail is first? It’s the red snail. Which snail is second? The orange snail. The blue snail is in third
position. The pink snail is coming in
fourth. And in fifth position, last but not
least, it’s the green snail. Let’s practice using ordinal
numbers to answer some questions about the position of up to 10 objects.
Look at the children standing in a
line. Amelia, Hannah, David, Sophia, and
Benjamin. Find the missing positions in these
sentences. Sophia is what from the left. Sophia is what from the right.
The picture shows us a group of
children standing in line. We’re asked to describe Sophia’s
position. The first question asks us to start
from the left and to describe Sophia’s position. If we start from the left, Emilia
is in first position. Hannah is second, David is third,
and Sophia is fourth. Sophia is fourth from the left. This time, we have to start from
the right and describe Sophia’s position. Benjamin is first on the right. Sophia is fourth from the left and
second from the right.
From left to right, the frog is in
the first position. What position is the fish in?
If we start from the left, the frog
is in the first position. What position is the fish in? We know the frog is first. The horse is second. The butterfly is in third
position. The ant is fourth. The kangaroo is in fifth
position. The cheetah is sixth. And the fish is in seventh
position. The fish is seventh from the
left.
Which car will finish the race
first?
We’re shown five different cars on
a racing track. Which car is going to reach the
finish line first? This car is first, the red car. The red car will finish the race
first. The blue car is second. The purple car is in third
position. The green car is fourth. And the yellow car is in fifth
position. The red car will finish the race
first.
What have we learned in this
video? We’ve learned that we can use
ordinal numbers to describe the position of objects in a row. We’ve also learned that we can
describe the position of objects from the left or from the right.
