Lesson Plan: Reciprocal and Quotient Identities
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find trigonometric functions such as tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant in terms of sine and cosine.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall expressions for tangent, cotangent, secant, and cosecant in terms of sine and cosine,
- calculate these functions for a triangle given the lengths of two of the sides,
- find the side length in a triangle equal to another side length times one of these functions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- finding the sine and cosine of an angle in a triangle.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the law of sines or cosines,
- solving trigonometric equations.
